Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in Noble Park North this morning.
It's believed a rental truck travelling north along Jacksons Road left the roadway and struck a pole just before 3am.
A yet-to-be formally identified female passenger died at the scene.
The driver, a 32-year-old man fled the scene on foot but, was located a short time later by the Canine Unit near the intersection of Elonera Road and Princes Highway Noble Park.
He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
