Police can confirm one person has died following a crash in Wairoa this afternoon.
The single vehicle crash on State Highway 2 was reported just before 5:30pm.
The person died at the scene despite the best efforts of first responders.
A second person in the vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was transported to hospital.
State Highway 2 remains closed between Ohuia Road and Iwitea Road while the Serious Crash Unit conduct a scene examination.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
