Detectives are investigating a fatal hit and run traffic crash which occurred in Weipa early this morning, Queensland Police say.
Preliminary investigations indicate at around 3am a man was struck by a vehicle on Northern Avenue, near the intersection of Annandi Avenue.
A 20-year-old local man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Forensic Crash Unit and additional officers from Cairns will travel to Weipa today as investigations continue.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or people with further information about the crash to contact police.
