Police are preparing a report for the Coroner following the death of a man at Hillcrest overnight.
About 10.15pm Monday 15 January emergency services were called to a property on Fosters Road after reports of a house fire.
When Police and MFS arrived at the scene they found a unit fully ablaze. An 81-year-old woman managed to escape the inferno with minor injuries, she was taken to the RAH for treatment.
Sadly, an 83-year-old man, died at the scene.
Extensive damage was caused to the property and the adjoining unit, thankfully next door neighbours were not home at the time.
Fire Cause Investigators attended the scene to assist with the investigation. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, but deemed non-suspicious.
