Fatal House Fire in Swansea: Emergency Crews Respond

A child has died following a fire at a Lake Macquarie home this afternoon.

About 1.30pm (Thursday 20 August 2026), emergency services were called to Northcote Avenue, Swansea, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District arrived and found a house well alight.

Police have been told that the house was occupied by a woman aged in her 80s and two young children.

One of the children was located during a search of the home and was unable to be revived.

The other child is understood to not be injured.

The woman was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition suffering burns.

A teenage boy who attempted to gain entry to the property was taken to hospital for the treatment of a leg injury.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters remain on scene.

Road closures in the area remain in place.
