Fatal house fire, NSW

A woman has died following a house fire in the state's Riverina region this morning.

Emergency services were called to the house on Tichborne Crescent, Kooringal, about 6.15am (Monday 25 February 2019), after a 41-year-old woman was awoken by the smell of smoke.

The woman was able to escape uninjured; however, a second woman was still believed to be inside.

The woman and neighbours attempted to access the house but they were unsuccessful.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended and extinguished the blaze.

The body of a woman, aged in her 30s, was found inside the home.

She is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
