Fatal light aircraft crash, Bribie Island

A man has died in an aircraft crash near Bribie Island today.

It is believed the man's light aircraft took off from Caloundra at 7.20am today.

At 9.20am, another pilot in the area noticed the aircraft in trouble and reported it to authorities.

Police were called to the scene at 9.25am where the aircraft had crashed in the Pumicestone Passage.

The man was declared deceased at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit and Scenes of Crime investigated the crash for the purposes of preparing a report for the Coroner.

Investigations have now been handed over to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).
