Fatal pedestrian crash at Richmond

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a car in the Northern Rivers Region yesterday.

Just before 5.30pm (Sunday 31 July 2022), emergency services were called to Tamarind Drive, Cumbalum, following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

The pedestrian – an 81-year-old man – died at the scene.

The driver – a 57-year-old man – was not injured and was taken to Ballina Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by specialist police and an investigation has commenced into the circumstance surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, police urge anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
