Driver Charged After Stolen Car, Dangerous Driving in Coolangatta

Police have charged a man with stolen vehicle and dangerous driving charges following an incident in Coolangatta yesterday, 7 November.

Around 7.40pm Saturday, police sighted a stolen grey Honda HR-V on Napper Road in Arundel. The Honda had been reported stolen from a Musgrave Avenue address in Southport on 3 November.

Police, alongside POLAIR, continued to track the vehicle as it travelled southbound on the M1 Pacific Motorway towards Coolangatta.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed before the vehicle came to a stop on Griffith Street.

It will be alleged a man then fled the vehicle on foot, before he was located on Boundary Street a short time later and taken into custody.

A 37-year-old Surfers Paradise man has since been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving without a driver licence.

He is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, 9 November.
