Bail-breaching Burglar Busted

A 44-year-old man is before the courts following several recent burglaries in the Whiritoa area.

Sergeant Cameron Young says in the last week, Police were made aware of around nine burglaries in the area north of Waihi.

"Whiritoa is a small community, and they understandably became increasingly frustrated with these incidents.

Yesterday, Police conducted a search warrant at a Whitiroa address.

A significant amount of alleged stolen property was located and recovered, and a 44-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene.

"We acknowledge these recent incidents would have been incredibly unsettling for the Whitiroa community, and we hope this arrest brings reassurance that we work hard to hold offenders to account," says Sergeant Young.

The 44-year-old man is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Monday 9 November, charged with burglary and breach of bail.

Police enquiries are continuing, and further charges cannot be ruled out.
