FECCA urges CALD communities to complete census

Australia's peak multicultural organisation - the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia (FECCA)-is encouraging Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities around the country to take part in the upcoming national census.

FECCA CEO, Mohammad Al-Khafaji, urged migrant and refugee communities to embrace the census to ensure everyone is counted and their diversity of culture, language, faith, and stories are reflected in modern-day Australia.

Mr Al-Khafaji said the census, which will be held on 10 August, would provide a snapshot of all people in Australia, their families and lives - allowing policy makers to better plan and provide equity of services where they are most needed.

"FECCA strongly encourages migrant and refugee communities to get involved in the census and fill out their forms - this is the best tool to ensure we can continue to advocate for our communities into the future," Mr Al-Khafaji said.

"Multicultural communities can be assured the census is safe and their privacy and data is protected by law."

"We encourage and thank community organisations who are supporting community members with filling forms, and we acknowledge this year may be difficult for some due to lockdowns."
