Federal Labor roads package a game changer for Tasmania

Tasmanian Labor
  • Investment in Tasmania will drive productivity and jobs while improving safety
  • Federal Liberals must match Labor's Tasmanian Roads Package
  • Visionary program at a time when State Government can't get organised
  • Shadow Infrastructure Minister David O'Byrne has welcomed Federal Labor's comprehensive $1.3 billion Tasmanian Roads Package.

The package will not only make Tasmania's roads safer, but also boost productivity, driving economic growth and job creation.

"If I was the Infrastructure Minister this morning it would be high-fives all round," Mr O'Byrne said.

"This is a visionary investment from Federal Labor at a time when the Tasmanian Liberals can't even release a roads and transport strategy.

"This is a massive investment program for Tasmanian roads that will make Tasmania a safer place and a better place to do business.

"Importantly, Federal Labor's Tasmanian Roads Package reaches into all areas of the state at a time when the Liberals are more focused on pork barrelling.

"The Federal Liberals must match Labor's Tasmanian Roads Package.

"The Hodgman Government must also come to the party in the upcoming state Budget, including a commitment towards the Plenty Link Road, which will ensure heavy freight vehicles do not have to go through Hobart's CBD when traveling from the Huon Valley to the Derwent Valley.

"I congratulate Federal Shadow Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese and Tasmania's Federal Labor MPs and candidates for fighting so hard for Tasmania to deliver this visionary roads package."
