FedNor Pours $4.9M Into Northern Ontario Growth

Today, Pauline Rochefort, Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of State (Rural Development), and Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, announced Government of Canada investments totalling $4,929,180 for six projects that will accelerate economic and business growth in Temiskaming Shores and communities across Northern Ontario. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor.

South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation

$1,600,000

A non-repayable FedNor investment of $1,600,000 will support the ongoing operations of the South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation (STCFDC) for a five-year period. The funding will enable this not-for-profit organization to provide business counselling and investment services to small and medium-sized businesses, as well as leadership in community strategic planning and socio-economic development. The STCFDC is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations located throughout Northern Ontario. These community-based, not-for-profit organizations are staffed by business professionals and are each governed by local volunteer board of directors familiar with their communities' needs, concerns, and future development priorities.

City of Temiskaming Shores

$1,152,000

The City of Temiskaming Shores is receiving a non-repayable FedNor investment of $1,152,000 to establish the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS) pavilion at the 2026 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention in Toronto (March 1-4) and the 2026 Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (CIM) annual convention in Vancouver (May 3-6). These two showcase events will help close to 150 businesses and organizations to increase sales and exports, access new markets, and explore partnership opportunities. Since its inception in 2015, the FedNor-funded pavilion has helped participating businesses increase sales and exports by more than $100 million, while helping to create and maintain 900 jobs across Northern Ontario.

B & G Industrial Services

$1,000,135

A repayable FedNor investment of $1,000,135 is helping B & G Industrial Services expand its manufacturing operations and purchase innovative equipment. Specifically, the funding will allow the Thornloe-based business to construct a new 19,650 square-foot manufacturing facility, and acquire and install key equipment such as a sandblast booth, overhead cranes, welders, plasma cutters, ventilation systems, and more. Once complete, this expansion will allow B & G Industrial Services to inspect and repair heavy duty trucks, and overhaul and refurbish used tractor trailers so they meet new regulatory specifications. Refurbished tractor trailers are in high demand as they provide operations and businesses a cost-effective alternative to purchasing new units. Funded through FedNor's Regional Growth Through Innovation Fund (REGI), this priority project is expected to create 12 new jobs, improve worker safety, and help this prominent Northern Ontario business scale up, increase production by 30 percent and generate new revenue to support its long-term growth and sustainability.

Koch Grain Elevator (Earlton) Inc.

$499,895

A repayable FedNor contribution of $499,895 is helping Koch Grain Elevator (Earlton) Inc. construct and purchase the equipment needed to establish a shipping and receiving rail terminal in the Temiskaming District. Specifically, the funding will be used to install conveyors, bucket elevators, automated scaled loading bins, and a stainless-steel unloading pit for offloading fertilizers coming in from outside the region. Once complete, this project will allow Koch Grain Elevator (Earlton) Inc. to help Northern Ontario's farmers and producers ship their products to new markets and receive critical materials needed to develop and grow the sector.

Mid North Recycling

$380,150

Mid North Recycling is receiving a repayable FedNor investment of $380,150 to expand and diversify its metal recycling operations. Specifically, the funding will be used to construct a new facility and integrate advanced technology to help the company scale-up, increase revenue. and enhance productivity. This project is funded through FedNor's Regional Growth Through Innovation Fund (REGI), which supports the growth of Northern Ontario businesses, their expansion into new markets, and their adoption of new technologies and processes.

City of Temiskaming Shores

$297,000

A non-repayable Government of Canada investment of $297,000 will enable the City of Temiskaming Shores to hire a regional Economic Development Officer (EDO) for a three-year period. The recently hired EDO is working to advance and undertake a variety of economic priorities in Temiskaming Shores and surrounding areas, spanning from Gowganda to Englehart to Temagami. Key areas of focus for the EDO include land development, workforce attraction, tourism, agriculture, mining, forestry, business support and more. Provided through FedNor's Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario (CIINO), this strategic initiative will help create jobs, strengthen the economy, and position partner communities and key sectors for long-term sustainable growth.
