Feds Pledge $5M for Ben Nevis Road Rebuild

The Federal Government has today announced $5 million to complete significant reconstruction works to Buangor-Ben Nevis Road in Buangor.

This essential link between the Pyrenees and Western Highways services a large number of freight transport vehicles, as well as local and tourist traffic.

These renewal works aim to reduce heavy vehicle traffic through Ararat, alleviating the impact on local roads and improving transport efficiency.

This project will reconstruct and widen approximately 6.2 kms of Buangor-Ben Nevis Road. The road seal width will be widened to minimum 7m. Works include excavation and removal of existing pavement, new road base course layers, drainage works, sealing, line marking, safety barriers and signage.

This funding is received through the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP), an initiative of the Federal Government designed to increase productivity and make local roads and bridges safer and more resilient.

"We're thrilled to see this announcement from the Federal Government in support of upgrading regional infrastructure," says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

"This funding will allow us to extend crucial reconstruction works to Buangor-Ben Nevis Road, improving both safety and connectivity throughout our municipality."
