Female pedestrian killed in Richmond

A female pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Richmond this evening, Victoria Police say.

The woman, believed to aged in her 60s, was struck while crossing the road at the intersection of Burnley and Murphy streets about 7.15pm.

Emergency services attempted to revive the woman but she died at the scene.

The 53-year-old male driver stopped at the scene and has been arrested.

The Richmond man is currently in custody and assisting police with their enquiries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident.

Burnley Street is currently closed between Highett Street and Bridge Road while detectives examine the scene.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a blue and silver Nissan Patrol 4WD with black wheels driving in the Richmond area prior to the collision to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
