Ferguson fails to deliver, again

Tasmanian Labor
  • Underground Hobart bus mall and Derwent ferries going nowhere
  • Ferguson fails again to provide detail on projects
  • Hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on consultants
  • Michael Ferguson today confirmed the Government's two flagship public transport initiatives have completely stalled.

Shadow Transport Minister, Anita Dow, said it's clear that Michael Ferguson can't manage transport projects despite them being critical for state growth, job creation and provision of services.

"A regular and reliable cross river ferry service and an underground bus mall in Hobart are unlikely to ever be servicing Tasmanians under the Hodgman Government's watch," Ms Dow said.

"Hundreds of thousands of dollars has been spent on consultants and yet today Michael Ferguson was still unable to provide any detail about when these projects would be completed.

"The Liberals promised to deliver a ferry service on the River Derwent and we know a business case is expected to be developed by 2020-21, yet the Government has failed to assure Tasmanians that the project is on track.

"Today Minister Ferguson declined to commit to adequately fund the ferry service because there is simply no money allocated in the budget for these services.

"These are just the latest in a growing list of delayed projects - the Hodgman Liberal Government's incompetence is embarrassing and Tasmanian's deserve better."
