Superboats will scythe the surface of Lake Macquarie and surfboards will slice the coastal swell this weekend as the Lake Mac Action Fest roars to life.
Previously known as Fast and Loud, the weekend's action is bigger and better in 2025, taking in six headline events across the city.
They include:
- Offshore Superboat Championships launching from Empire Marina. Race viewing from Booragul to Eleebana
- Australian Formula Powerboat Grand Prix at Rathmines Boat Ramp and Catalina Park
- Let's Surf Lake Mac at Redhead Beach
- Morisset Lake Macquarie Agricultural Show at Morisset Showground
- Fernleigh 15 race on the Fernleigh Track.
- Lake Macquarie Show 'N Shine at Speers Point Park
Two superboats poised to take part in the weekend's competition took to the water on Friday to provide a preview of their speed and power.
Each is capable of reaching up to 240kmh and accelerates to 100kmh faster than a Ferrari.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz, who got a firsthand feel for the sleek vessels' awesome power, said the weekend would appeal to a wide audience.
"The weather forecast is looking good, and this is the perfect time of year to get outdoors and enjoy everything we have on offer across Lake Macquarie," he said.
"Lake Mac Action Fest will showcase our city to locals and visitors and it will activate areas along the lake's shore, at Redhead Beach and in the city's south at Morisset."
"This is great news for tourism, but it's equally beneficial for bringing the local community together to enjoy the amazing natural beauty of our city."
This year's Let's Surf is a Pro Junior Surf competition to be held Saturday and Sunday, providing a pathway for young surfers to join the World Junior Surf Championship.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said Sunday's free Show 'N Shine would feature vintage, classic, custom and hot rod cars and motorbikes.
"Lake Mac Action Fest celebrates the vibrant spirit of Lake Macquarie," she said.
