Fighting for Territorians with a Disability: COAG Disability Reform Council

Minister for Disabilities, Natasha Fyles, took part in anextraordinary meeting of the COAG Disability Reform Council today regarding theRoyal Commission into the Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of Peoplewith Disability announced by the Prime Minister.

At the meeting Ms Fyles provided the Territory LaborGovernments in-principle support for the Royal Commission, which will now beconfirmed through the Cabinet process.

As stated by Ministerfor Disabilities, Natasha Fyles:

All Territorians deserve to feel safe, and today Ireaffirmed the Territory Labor Governments position that we support a RoyalCommission into the Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People withDisability.

COAG was an opportunity for all the States and Territoriesto constructively discuss what the Royal Commission will involve.

I raised how Territorians might be engaged in the RoyalCommission, highlighting the fact it is important the voices of those in remoteand regional areas are also heard.

The abuse of Territorians with a disability will not betolerated.
