Yesterday, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, met with Canada's leading chief economists to exchange views and perspectives on the country's economic outlook and discuss the government's plan to build the strongest economy in the G7.
The roundtable focused on the challenges and opportunities facing the Canadian economy-including ongoing global uncertainty, Canada's continued response to tariffs, and the shared steps the government, alongside its partners and industry, must take to get the best deal with the United States that protects our workers and businesses.
The minister and chief economists discussed opportunities to create jobs, build more homes, diversify trade and build one strong Canadian economy-not just to withstand trade disruptions, but to leverage Canada's renowned capabilities to drive growth in a changing global environment. The conversation also touched on the government's ambitious but responsible fiscal plan that will spend less, invest more, and build Canada as an economic force for decades to come, including catalyzing private capital and unleashing investment.
The meeting is part of a broader consultation process ahead of Budget 2025, which will continue to deliver on the government's mandate to bring down costs, keep communities safe, diversify trade, and build Canada strong.
