David Engwicht, creator of the 7 Day Makeover, will be in Port Stephens next week to explain the process and encourage people to get involved.

"From 8 to 14 May, we're going to be transforming Medowie on a shoe-string budget in just 7 days using pure people-power.

"I've already been to Medowie to check out the town and I see a lot of potential! While there's a lot of work to do, that just gives us a greater opportunity for transformation," Engwicht said.

"The information night is an opportunity to find out how the 7 Day Makeover works, ask questions and find out how to get involved.

"Anyone can participate, whatever your age or ability. Even if you can only give an hour — we need your help. We're also seeking donations to help purchase materials to make the makeover the biggest success it can be.

"Port Stephens Council has already contributed $25,000 so we're off to a flying start but we need more!

"I predict that people will be blown away by what we achieve in 7 days and with very limited resources. Participants often tell me it is the most fun they have had in decades," he added.

Local resident and makeover advocate Councillor Chris Doohan says he hopes to see the community get involved.

"Medowie, this is our chance to come together and help make our town centre something we can be proud of — something that matches the strong community spirit we already have here.

"While Anna Bay holds the record for the most number of volunteers to ever take part in a 7 Day Makeover and raised $40,000, I know Medowie can do better.

"We need volunteers to sign up at 7day.com.au and make a donation towards materials. Even if the money doesn't get spent during the 7 days, all funds raised go back into Medowie, so we can always use more!

"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the information night!"

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says it's great to be working with Creative Communities again.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Medowie. David Engwicht is considered one of the world's most innovative thinkers on creating great public spaces and has done great things in Anna Bay with the help of the local community.

"Port Stephens Council is proud to be partnering with Creative Communities to bring the 7 Day Makeover to Medowie. I'd encourage all of our community and local businesses to get involved however you can," he said.
