Fire Game launched in Nillumbik Shire

Bushfire safety will be child's play after CFA, Nillumbik Shire and Emergency and State Superannuation (ESSSuper) joined forces to develop a new resource to engage and educate the community.

The Fire Game launched in Nillumbik Shire

CFA volunteers from the Diamond Creek Fire Brigade, along with Shire of Nillumbik and ESSSuper support, launched The Fire Game on Monday, 3 February 2020.

The game - which poses questions as you move round the (Monopoly-style) board - is adapted to the Nillumbik Shire, featuring local towns and locations. It will be made available in local schools, as well as local libraries, fire stations, community centres and even cafes.

The Fire Game was originally developed by the Surf Coast Shire, which has generously shared the game for local adaptation.

Third Lieutenant and Community Safety Coordinator, Fiona Macken of Diamond Creek Fire Brigade, said members of the brigade are excited to present The Fire Game to the local community of Nillumbik.

"We are looking forward to watching locals learn about fire safety in a fun and engaging way through this game," Ms Macken said.

"The Fire Game's questions and answers provide relevant fire safety advice, as well as information on how communities can prepare in the lead up to summer and where to find this information."

CFA is also providing a copy of the game to all staff community educators working in the Shire of Nillumbik and is excited to have a new tool through which to engage the community.

Nillumbik Shire Council will provide a $2,000 grant to the Diamond Creek Fire Brigade to print the Nillumbik version of The Fire Game.

"It's an innovative and engaging way for families to improve their general and local knowledge when it comes to bushfire preparedness and safety," Ms Macken said.
