Fire hazard at Tennant Creek

Police officers in Tennant Creek potentially saved a man's life on Sunday morning after their quick actions evacuated a sleeping man from a fire hazard.

At approximately 10:43am on Sunday 7 May 2023, a residential smoke alarm was activated and witnesses observed smoke coming from the windows of a dwelling and called NTPFES.

NT Police were the first responders to arrive at the scene. They immediately sprang into action, forcing entry through the locked front door and located a man sleeping in the lounge room and carried him to safety.

Officers located a pot on the stove that had boiled dry, and the contents were burned, causing the smoke. Thanks to the quick actions of the police, this man was evacuated in time before things could have escalated.

This serves as a reminder to always be aware of fire hazards.
