Firearm charges following siege in Silverdale

Police have charged a man with firearms offences following a short siege is Sydney’s west, NSW Police say.

About 5.30pm on Wednesday (12 October 2016), officers attached to St Marys Local Area Command attended a home in Silverdale, following reports of a concern for welfare.

A 64-year-old man had barricaded himself into a shed, allegedly armed with a shotgun and ammunition.

Police negotiators, with assistance from Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) were called to the scene and a perimeter was established.

Just before 11pm, the man surrendered himself to police and his firearms were seized.

He was taken to Nepean Hospital for assessment and was released on Monday (17 October 2016).

No one was injured during the incident.

On Tuesday 18 October, the man attended St Marys Police Station, were he was arrested and charged with fire firearm manner likely to injure person/property and use firearm under the influence of alcohol/drug.

The man will appear at Penrith Local Court on Thursday 1 December 2016.
