Firearm charges laid following search warrant in Orange

A man has been charged with firearm offences following a search warrant in Orange yesterday (Tuesday 12 February 2019).

About 5pm on Tuesday 12 February 2019, detectives from Central West Police District assisted by Western Region OSG and RES officers, attended a home on Ellard Street to execute a search warrant.

Two rifles and a shortened double-barrel shotgun along with ammunition were located at the scene and secured for forensic analysis.

One of the weapons has since been identified as being allegedly stolen from an earlier break and enter in Orange.

A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Orange police station and charged with possess unauthorised firearm and possess ammunition without licence / permit.

The man was refused bail to appear before Orange Local Court today (Wednesday 13 February 2019).

Investigations are ongoing and further charges are expected.
