Firearms, drugs seized in Junee

Police have seized drugs and firearms as part of an ongoing investigation into drugs and property offences in the Riverina region of NSW, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 6 March 2018) officers attached to Riverina Police District executed a search warrant at a home in Marquis Street, Junee.

Police will allege, they located and seized three firearms including a Winchester .22 calibre rifle, a Krico .22 calibre rifle, a Waffenfabric bolt action rifle, and a large amount of prohibited drugs including cannabis and methylamphetamine.

All items have been seized and will undergo forensic examination.

Investigations are continuing.

Inspector Robert Vergano from the Riverina Police District said yesterday’s operation was part of an ongoing campaign targeting drug and property offences in Junee, and he encouraged members of the community to dob in those people who are dealing in illegal drugs.

"Drugs like this are destructive and have no place in our rural communities," Insp Vergano said.

"I want to reassure the community that if they have information about drug distribution they can call police confidentially.

"Yesterday’s operation demonstrates that we will act on information with the aim to reducing drug crime in places like Junee.

"Drug use is not just a police problem; it is a whole-of-community problem.

"An estimated $25,000 worth of prohibited drugs has been removed from hitting our streets.

"The police here will continue to execute similar search warrants throughout Junee targeting those that distribute drugs."

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to the supply of prohibited drugs to call Crime Stoppers.
