Firearms seized and man arrested in Port Augusta, SA

Police have arrested a man in Port Augusta after loaded firearms were found in his car yesterday, according to SA Police.

About 3pm on Sunday 20 August, a patrol stopped a car on Caroona Road and spoke to the male driver. Two loaded rifles were found in the car, along with nearly 600 rounds of ammunition.

A further search was conducted at the man’s Golden Grove home by Holden Hill detectives, and three handguns that were not registered to the man were found. Seven other firearms which were registered to the man along with over 2,600 rounds of ammunition was seized.

The 68-year-old Golden Grove man was charged with numerous firearms offences including possess an unregistered firearm and possess a loaded firearm in public. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today.
