Firearms Seized, Man Faces 57 Charges in Newtown

A man has been charged and a significant number of firearms and parts have been seized following an investigation into the unauthorised possession of firearms in Newtown yesterday.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports a man was illegally in possession of a firearm at a commercial address.

About 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 September 2025), police attended the address on Wilson Street, Newtown, and saw a man leaving in a vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle on King Street, Newtown, and during a search of man, police allegedly located and seized a pistol in his jacket pocket.

About 5pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 September 2025), a search warrant was executed at the Wilson Street business where police allegedly located and seized more than 50 items of interest, including 15 pistols and 13 rifles.

The firearms appear to be gel blasters; however, are yet to be examined.

About 8.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 September 2025), a subsequent search warrant was executed at a residential property on Anzac Parade, Kingsford, where police allegedly located and seized further firearm parts.

A 43-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with 57 offences:

  • 15x possess unauthorised pistol
  • 15x not keep firearm safely-pistol
  • 13x possess unauthorised firearm
  • 13x not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm; and,
  • Possess more than three unregistered firearms.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Thursday 11 September 2025).
