Fireworks to bring in New Year in Southern Grampians

The Southern Grampians Shire Council New Year's Eve fireworks display will be back again this year in Hamilton to bring some sparkle to 2023.

The display will begin at 10:00pm on New Year's Eve, Saturday 31 December 2022 with the Rotary Club of Hamilton providing fun for the whole family prior to the display including rides, face painting, activities, food and entertainment.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor David Robertson said Council is looking forward to bringing in the New Year with spectacular fireworks at Melville Oval that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

"It's great to have the Council Fireworks display return again to Hamilton to celebrate what has been another long year in returning to normal life as we know it," said Cr Robertson.

"The fireworks display is just another way we as a Council can provide some joy and entertainment for our Southern Grampians residents so we look forward to sharing a brilliant display with our community.

"The Rotary Street Party is also back this year and will bring a lot of fun to the evening with festivities located at the Melville Oval Netball Courts set to begin from 5:30pm.

"If you are spending your New Year's Eve locally, pop down to the event and have some New Year's fun right here in the Southern Grampians," concluded Cr Robertson.

In preparation for the fireworks set up, Melville Oval will be closed to public from 4:00pm 30 December 2022 re-opening after pack down at 12:00pm 2 January 2023.

Traffic management will also be in place around the Melville Oval precinct with Market Place and Brown Street sides closed to traffic on New Year's Eve. Lonsdale and Thompson Streets will remain open to traffic with spectators and motorists reminded to be aware of traffic and abide by normal road rules during this time.

Patrons will be asked to leave the Melville Oval precinct at 9:15pm to take their place at designated viewing areas along Brown Street and the Sam Fitzpatrick Gardens for the fireworks spectacular.

Pet owners are reminded to secure animals and undertake any necessary precautions to keep pets safe during the evening. Enjoy your New Year's festivities, but don't forget your animal family and friends.
