First training course to be delivered by Australian Cyber…

A new course is being offered by the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre (A3C), global technology consulting company aizoOn and the University of Adelaide.

The course will give IT professionals an introduction to handling a cyber security incident and digital forensics.

The Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said the course was the first of many collaboration outcomes flowing from the A3C, which opens its doors in July.

"The A3C is a mission-driven, not-for-profit organisation committed to using knowledge and expertise to make cyberspace a better and safer place for organisations, corporations, agencies and institutions to do business," Minister Pisoni said.

"The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cyber Security Incident Handling and Introduction to Digital Forensics course will give 20 IT professionals with a cyber interest a solid understanding of the methodologies, tools and techniques for an effective cyber incident response process.

"Delivered through a combination of webinars and in-person seminars at Lot Fourteen, where both the A3C and aizoOn are located, it has been tailored to be relevant for both Windows and Linux-based operating systems.

"This is a timely reminder of the importance for businesses to be cyber aware and take proactive measures to protect their business, given recent attacks targeting all levels of Australian governments, industry, political organisations, education, health, essential service providers and operators of other critical infrastructure.

"The A3C will raise cyber awareness for business and act as the translator between the business, government, industry and cyber specialists within the ecosystem.

"The A3C will support businesses to understand and navigate the cyber ecosystem to address their specific cyber needs, complementing the work of organisations such as AustCyber, the Cyber Security CRC and the Australian Cyber Security Centre."

Director aizoOn Australia Federico Cornagliotto said they are delighted to be the first service provider through the A3C in 2020.

"Our training services group are bringing a best of breed partnership from our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with the University of Adelaide to deliver aizoOn content in a hybrid model of live and pre-recorded on-line training, with classroom sessions," Mr Cornagliotto said.

"At aizoOn, training is one of our service offerings, combined with Vulnerability Assessments and Penetration testing, with consultancy that includes cyber range and design through to delivery of cyber projects. We also provide our 'in house' engineered product – 'aramis' to detect Enterprise network attacks for customers in South Australia, through local leader Harvey Marcus."

Dr Matthew Sorell from the University of Adelaide worked closely with aizoOn's CTO Danilo Massa to adapt aizoOn's existing training for the local Australian market. The current COVID-19 travel and social distancing restrictions made this a particular challenge.

The hybrid online and in-person program draws on the University's experience in online course delivery and Dr Sorell's international expertise in cybersecurity and digital forensics.

"I'm delighted to be working with the team at aizoOn in Italy to deliver the first training course at the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre. It's a great example of collaboration between the University of Adelaide and industry to build local cyber security capability," Dr Sorell said.
