Fischer Street to become smoother and safer for road users

Works are about to start to resurface the section of Fischer Street, between Beach Road and Darian Road, in Torquay.

The works are due to start on Wednesday (12 February) and are expected to take four to six weeks, weather permitting.

Surf Coast Shire Cr Brian McKiterick, who represents the Torquay Ward, said the works would improve road safety.

"This section of road is in poor condition and is failing in sections. The works will make the road smoother and safer for all road users," he said.

"The first section to be resurfaced will be between Beach Road and Cowrie Road. Once this is complete, the contractors will move to the section between Cowrie Road and Darian Road."

"Fischer Street will remain open to traffic at all times. Traffic management will be in place, with traffic reduced to one lane at times, so drivers may experience some minor delays. We recommend taking an alternative route if possible," Cr McKiterick said.

There will be no vehicle access from Cowrie Road and Central Avenue to Fischer Street when works are being undertaken in this section. Detours will be in place.

At times throughout the works, the bus stops located on the north side of the Beach Road roundabout will be temporarily relocated to the south side of the roundabout, located around 20 metres away. Check the bus stop signs for details.

There will be some short periods when vehicle access to properties on Fischer Street will be impacted. Residents will be given advanced notice and will be kept updated throughout the works.

The works are being funded by the Surf Coast Shire as part of its asset renewal program.
