Fisherman Killed After Swept Off Rocks at Evans Head

A fisherman has died after being swept off the rocks in the state's north today.

Shortly after 11am today (Sunday 14 June 2026), emergency services were called to Conner Hurley Lookout, Evans Head, following reports a rock fisherman was swept into the water.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District with the assistance of Marine Area Command, Surf Life Saving NSW and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended the scene and attempted to assist the man; however, he could not be revived and died at the scene.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the man was fishing on a rock wall nearby when he was swept into the water.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
