Fishing Education, Infrastructure Grants Open

The next round of Recreational Fishing Trust funding is open for applications from fishing clubs and community groups, with a focus on recreational fishing education projects, alongside fishing infrastructure and access.

Funding is now available for recreational fishing education projects valued at up to $10,000 per application, while grants of up to $50,000 per application are available for fishing infrastructure and access projects.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) Deputy Secretary Fisheries and Forestry Tara Black said a 2024 survey of Recreational Fishing Licence Fee holders identified these two areas as key priorities for investment for fishers.

"Every year fishers pay their licence fees, and every single dollar is placed into the Recreational Fishing Trusts and used to improve recreational fishing in NSW for the benefit of the State's recreational fishers," Ms Black said.

"Through these grants, the NSW Government is putting fishing licence fees to work, ensuring the popularity of fishing continues to grow for young and old alike, and providing better access and facilities for the angling community."

Types of projects that can now be applied for include:

  • Recreational fishing education: fishing workshops and events, schools education, providing information to fishers
  • Fishing infrastructure and access: fishing platforms, fish cleaning facilities, kayak launching platforms, fishing access tracks, fishing safety infrastructure and other angler facilities

Applications are open for eight weeks and will then be assessed before recommendations are made to the Minister on investment.
