Five arrested following investigations into multiple arson offences, NSW

Police attached to St Mary’s Local Area Command have arrested five people following an investigation into a number of arsons in the area, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Polygon was established to investigate multiple car and house fires in the areas of Colyton, Glendenning, Doonside, Schofields and Kingswood between August 2014 and June 2017.

Police believe the following incidents are linked and were allegedly instigated by a 53-year-old Kingswood man in relation to ongoing domestic violence.

  • About 1pm, Wednesday 6 August 2014, a Holden Statesman parked in a driveway on St Albans Road, Schofields was destroyed by fire
  • Just after midnight, Monday 19 October 2015, a Nissan Pulsar parked in a driveway at Woodley Crescent, Glendenning was destroyed by fire
  • About 11.40pm, Saturday 21 October 2015, a single story house in Woodley Crescent, Glendenning was significantly damaged by fire
  • About 1am, Thursday 18 February 2016, an Isuzu table top truck parked outside a house in Desborough Road, Colyton was damaged by fire
  • Just after 1am, Tuesday 23 February 2016 an Isuzu table top truck, a Holden Commodore and a Mazda 3 parked in the driveway of a house in Desborough Road, Colyton were damaged by fire
  • About 7am, Friday 24 June 2016 a Subaru Forester parked in the driveway of a house in Wilkie Crescent, Doonside was damaged by fire
  • About 3am, Sunday 31 July 2016 a Mazda Tribute parked in the driveway of a house in Wilkie Crescent, Doonside was damaged by fire
  • About 2.30am, Monday 17 October, 2106 a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the front yard of a house in Desborough Road, Colyton causing minor damage
  • About 3am, Tuesday 18 October 2106, a Molotov cocktail was thrown onto the roof of a house on Desborough Road, Colyton causing minor damage
  • Just after 3am, Saturday 26 November 2016 the front balcony of a house in Desborough Road Colyton was damaged by fire
  • About 6am, Saturday 10 June 2017 a town house on Jamison Road, Kingswood was damaged by fire

Officer’s attached to Strike Force Polygon have made the following arrests;

  • On 26 November 2016 a 43-year-old Kingswood man was charged with damage property by fire and damage property by fire – endanger life in relation to the fire at Colyton on 26 November 2016. He was refused bail and remanded in custody until his next appearance at Penrith District Court on 9 April 2018.
  • On 10 June 2016 a 53-year-old Kingswood man was charged with 11 counts of damage property by fire (accessory before) in relation to all 11 fires. He was refused bail and remanded until his next appearance at Penrith Local Court on 22 September 2017.
  • On 28 June 2017 a 26-year-old Kingswood woman was arrested and charged with four counts of damage property by fire in relation to fires at Glendenning on 19 and 21 October 2016 and the fires at Colyton on 18 and 23 February 2016. She will next appear at Penrith Local Court on 22 September 2017.
  • On 5 July 2017 a 22-year-old Kingswood man was arrested and charged with two counts of damage property by fire in relation to the fires at Colyton on 18 and 23 February 2016. He is due to appear at Penrith Local Court on 22 September 2017.
  • On 4 September 2017 a 20-year-old Cranebrook man was arrested and charged with two counts of damage property by fire in relation to the fires at Colyton on 18 and 23 February 2016. He is due to appear at Penrith Local Court on 26 September 2017.

Inquiries are continuing and investigators are appealing to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
