Five arrested following police pursuit, NSW

Five people have been arrested following a police pursuit in the state’s north today, NSW Police say.


About 9.30am (Wednesday 26 September 2018), officers from Richmond Police District were patrolling West Ballina, when they spotted a stolen Mercedes sedan parked on Haymen Street.


Police went to speak with men in the area when three men entered the vehicle and fled the scene.


Two teens, aged 15 and 17, were arrested nearby following a short foot pursuit and were taken to Ballina Police Station.


A police pursuit was initiated with the Mercedes but was terminated due to safety reasons.


The vehicle was sighted in Byron Bay about 10.45am, before it was located abandoned a short time later in Paterson Street.

The men fled into nearby bushland.


Officers from Richmond and Tweed/Byron Police Districts, with assistance from the Dog Unit, conducted an extensive search of the area.

About 2.30pm, three men, aged 14, 17 and 18, were arrested at Treelands Crescent, Ballina, and taken to Ballina Police Station.
