Five people injured, after explosion at picnic area, NSW

Five people have been injured after an explosion at a picnic area in Belanglo State Forest today, NSW Police say.

About 12.30pm today, emergency services were called to a picnic area on Daly’s Road, following reports of an explosion.

Officers from The Hume Local Area Command attended and found five people, including three adults and two children, with severe burns.

Police have been told that the family were attempting to light a BBQ when the explosion occurred.

One adult and a child sustained serious burns to the face and chest; they were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Concord Hospital.

The remaining two adults and a child were also treated at the scene and were taken by road to Liverpool Hospital.

A crime scene has been established which will be examined by detectives and forensic officers.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
