Five police officers assaulted following arrest at Redfern, NSW

A man is due to appear in court today after he allegedly assaulted five police officers yesterday, NSW Police say.

Detectives investigating alleged firearm and drug offences arrested a 29-year-old man about 3pm (Thursday 12 July 2018) on Morehead Street at Redfern.

The man was taken to Redfern Police Station where he was charged with multiple counts of drug supply and possessing unauthorised firearms.

Police will allege when the man was taken to the Sydney Police Centre, he urinated in the dock before assaulting a sergeant.

Four officers who went to his aid were then allegedly assaulted by the man.

He was restrained before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for monitoring.

He has since been released and returned to the Sydney Police Centre where he was charged with five counts of assault police in execution of duty; destroy or damage property; and intimidate police.

He’s been bail refused to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 13 July 2018).

The officers were taken to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries, including bite wounds, grazes and swelling.
