Five teens dump stolen car in Glen Iris

A police dog and his handler have tracked down and arrested five teenagers this morning after they dumped and ran from a stolen car in Glen Iris.

The teens were first spotted in the grey Mitsubishi sedan on Carool Street in Ashburton about12.45am.

A check of the car's registration by Camberwell van members identified that the car had been stolen during an aggravated burglary in Tarneit last week.

The Airwing was called in and assisted in coordinating units on the ground as the car travelled through Ashburton, Camberwell and Glen Iris.

Officers were able to successfully deploy stop sticks at the intersection of Burke and Toorak roads before the car came to a stop and was dumped on Parkin Street in Glen Iris.

The five teens all ran from the car towards Gardiner Creek Trail before a police dog Zues and his handler caught up with them all trying to wade through the creek.

The quintet where all arrested at the scene without incident.

Four of the males, ranging in age from 16-17 from Epping, Werribee and Noble Park are currently assisting police with their enquires.

The fifth teen, a 19-year-old man from Werribee, has been charged with theft of motor car and possess controlled weapon.

He has been bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on 8 February 2023.
