Five Women, Five Stories: Unforgettable Theatre Night

Griffith Regional Theatre will welcome Echo Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Bombshells on Wednesday 23 September, bringing one of Australia's most celebrated contemporary plays to local audiences. Written by renowned Australian playwright Joanna Murray-Smith and directed by Jordan Best, this poignant, humorous and deeply moving production shines a spotlight on the lives of five women navigating the pressures, expectations and challenges of everyday life.

Bombshells introduces audiences to an exhausted mother, a betrayed wife, an ambitious teenager, a regretful bride and a resigned widow. Standing on the brink of personal transformation, each woman shares her own story in a series of compelling monologues that are by turns hilarious, heartbreaking and inspiring.

Set against the backdrop of contemporary Australian society, Murray-Smith's acclaimed play explores the tension between personal fulfilment and societal expectation. Through moments of vulnerability, resilience and humour, Bombshells reveals the extraordinary strength of women at every stage of life, inviting audiences to laugh, cry and reflect on experiences that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Originally conceived as a one-woman show and famously performed by Australian theatre legend Caroline O'Connor, Echo Theatre's touring production reimagines the work with five performers, each bringing their own unique insight and authenticity to one of Murray-Smith's richly drawn characters.

Director Jordan Best describes the production as "a play about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, about resilience and persistence, about the strength and tenacity of women at every stage of our lives, exposing humanity at its most vulnerable moments."

Bombshells will perform at Griffith Regional Theatre on Wednesday 23 September at 7:30pm. Theatre Members are encouraged to take advantage of a special members offer, bring a friend for free, that is only $40 for two tickets.
