Five youths charged following police pursuit in Panania

Police have charged five youths following a pursuit through suburbs across south-western Sydney earlier today, NSW Police say.

About 3.20pm (Monday 27 November 2017), officers from Bankstown Highway Patrol were conducting patrols of the school zone at Lambeth Street, Panania, when they saw a stolen Hyundai Santa Fa travel past them at speed.

Officers engaged the vehicle in a pursuit through Panania, East Hills, Moorebank, Liverpool and Wattle Grove. The highway vehicle was assisted by POLAIR, the Dog Squad, a Region Enforcement Squad crew, and local police.

About 3.40pm POLAIR advised that the Hyundai had driven down an embankment towards the George River. Police apprehended five youths inside the vehicle without incident.

They were taken to Bankstown Police Station where they were charged with the following –

  • A 16-year-old boy was charged with police pursuit (x2), Skye’s Law (x2), drive conveyance (x2), enter vehicle without consent (x3), never held licence (x2), fail to stop and breach of bail (x2)
  • A 16-year-old boy was charged with enter vehicle without consent and be carried in a conveyance without consent
  • A 16-year-old boy was charged with enter vehicle without consent and be carried in a conveyance without consent
  • A 16-year-old boy was charged with enter vehicle without consent, be carried in a conveyance without consent and goods in custody
  • A 17-year-old boy was charged with enter vehicle without consent and be carried in a conveyance without consent

They are due to appear in a children’s court tomorrow.
