The future of Flinders Island Airport is secure under a re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government.
Recognising the critical importance of the airport to the Flinders Island community and economy, Flinders Island Council will receive $320,000 for necessary upgrades.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Liberal Government had been working hand-in-hand with the Flinders Island Council to develop a pathway forward for the airport.
"This investment will secure ongoing aviation to and from the airfield," Premier Rockliff said.
"These upgrades will not only support locals and tourists, but also back in our emergency services travelling to and from the island.
"The people of Flinders Island deserve a modern, properly accredited airport, and a re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government will help deliver this."
Liberal Members for Bass, Michael Ferguson, Simon Wood, and Rob Fairs have all visited the Island and have made strong representations on behalf of residents.
The investment will enable the council to complete the first stage of a two-stage improvement plan, which includes modernising the airport's electrical system, installing new lighting and constructing a new operations office.
Tasmanians want action. They want stability.
A majority Liberal Government is the only way to keep Tasmania moving forward.
Let's get on with it and finish the job, for Tasmania.
Comments attributable to Flinders Island Mayor, Rachel Summers:
"We're incredibly grateful to see this election commitment from the Liberal Party to the Flinders Island Airport Revitalisation Project.
"This funding is the final piece that will unlock over $3 million in joint funding, ensuring we can deliver long-overdue upgrades to one of our island's most critical pieces of infrastructure. The project extends beyond economic gain, directly impacting community health, safety and accessibility."
