Rockhampton Regional Council will conduct a planned practice deployment of the temporary flood barrier on Water Street, Lakes Creek next week.
The exercise is part of Council's ongoing disaster preparedness efforts, and it will test the barrier's effectiveness and provide an opportunity to rehearse its installation and removal procedures.
The exercise will require the closure of Water Street between Lakes Creek Road and Mason Street from Monday, 18 August to Friday, 22 August.
Works will be carried out between 6am and 3pm each day, during which Water Street will be closed to through traffic. Detours will be in place via Lakes Creek Road, Dean Street, and Mason Street.
The 448-metre barrier will be installed by a 15-person team. When deployed during a flood event, it is designed to help protect approximately 400 properties.
This practice run ensures the barrier can be deployed efficiently and effectively when needed, confirms that all components are present and in good condition, and helps refine emergency response strategies ahead of the wet season.
Residents and businesses in the area have been notified in advance, and property access will be maintained where possible.
