ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:
MAJOR FLOODING PEAKED AT BESWICK BRIDGE, WITH SMALL RENEWED RISES POSSIBLE
Recent heavy rainfall across the Waterhouse and Roper catchments has resulted in significant river level rises along the Waterhouse River, with major flooding occurring at Beswick Bridge. Major flooding has peaked at Beswick Bridge, however small renewed rises are possible overnight Friday into Saturday and major flooding is likely to continue into Saturday.
Elevated river levels and river level rises are occurring throughout the Roper River catchment. Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days, which may lead to renewed river level rises.
This situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Bonaparte, North West Coastal and Carpentaria Coastal River catchments. A severe weather warning is current for heavy rainfall in the Daly and parts of Arnhem districts.
Waterhouse River:
Major flooding is occurring along the Waterhouse River.
The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge peaked at 9.32 m around 2:15 pm Friday, with major flooding. The river is currently at 9.21 m and steady, with major flooding. Small renewed river level rises are possible and the Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is likely to remain above the major flood level (8.70 m) overnight Friday into Saturday.
Roper River below Elsey Creek:
Elevated river levels and river level rises are occurring throughout the Roper River catchment.
