ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT NITMILUK CENTRE FROM MONDAY EVENING AND AT KATHERINE BRIDGE FROM TUESDAY MORNING

Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Katherine River catchment since Sunday morning. Further showers and thunderstorms are possible over the next few days.

River level rises are occurring along the Katherine River and minor flooding is occurring at Nitmiluk Centre. Major flooding may develop along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre from Monday evening and at Katherine Bridge from Tuesday morning.

This situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End including the Katherine River catchment. A Severe Weather Warning is also current for parts of the Northern Territory.

Katherine River Gorge Road:

Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is possible along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre.

The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 4.85 m and rising, with minor flooding. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (5.50 m) Monday morning. The river may reach near the major flood level (6.50 m) Monday evening.

Katherine Town:

Major flooding is possible along the Katherine River at Katherine Town.

The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 12.67 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is likely to exceed the minor flood level (16.00 m) Monday morning. The river may exceed the moderate flood level (16.50 m) Monday afternoon. The river may reach near the major flood level (17.50 m) Tuesday morning.
