Flood gates and flood-relief gates

The Lower Macleay River is experiencing normal tidal movements and conditions again. As a result, the flood gates are scheduled to reopen.

Tidal patterns returned to normal on Monday 11 July, so in accordance with our flood action guide, the cross over gates at Kinchela Creek and Belmore River will open on Monday 18 July.

All other flood structures will also be open on Monday.

The crossover gates are open in normal conditions to allow natural tides along the main channel. These gates were closed before the recent flooding as this helps control water levels in the main river and prevents water entering the floodplain in minor flood events.

Please note that plans to reopen the crossover gates may change if weather concerns become known.
