ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

NITMILUK CENTRE PEAKED AT 7.5 METRES WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WITH MAJOR FLOODING

KATHERINE BRIDGE MAY PEAK NEAR 17.6 METRES WITH MAJOR FLOODING OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY

Moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle since Sunday has caused significant river level rises along the Katherine River and its tributaries. The main flood peak has passed Nitmiluk, where river levels peaked at 7.53 m Wednesday afternoon with major flooding.

Downstream at Katherine Bridge, moderate flooding is occurring with rises expected to continue and major flooding is possible from late Wednesday evening, with a peak above the major flood level possible overnight Wednesday.

Further showers and thunderstorms are possible over the next few days and further river level rises are possible. This situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Katherine River Gorge Road:

Major flooding is occurring along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre.

The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre peaked at 7.53 m around 03:30 pm Wednesday, with major flooding. The river is currently at 7.36 m and falling, with major flooding. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is likely to remain above the major flood level (6.50 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Katherine Town:

Major flooding is possible along the Katherine River at Katherine Town.

The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 17.35 m and rising, with moderate flooding. The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge may exceed the major flood level (17.50 m) late Wednesday evening. The river may peak near 17.60 m overnight Wednesday into Thursday, with major flooding.
