Fluoridation of Molong Water Treatment Plant
Cabonne Council is progressing a project to introduce fluoridation at the Molong Water Treatment Plant, which supplies drinking water to Molong, Cumnock and Yeoval.
The application has been submitted to NSW Health and is currently under review by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, with Council aiming to have fluoridation operational by 30 June 2026, subject to final approvals.
Fluoride will be added during the water treatment process to achieve a target level of 1.0 mg/L, in line with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and to support dental health, with strict monitoring and automatic shutdown safeguards in place to prevent over‑fluoridation.
Council will operate the system in accordance with NSW regulatory requirements, with trained staff, audited procedures and funding supported through the NSW Health fluoridation subsidy, and residents are encouraged to seek advice from health professionals regarding fluoride supplements once fluoridation begins.
A separate project is underway to formally declare the Cumnock and Yeoval water supplies fully potable.
This project is progressing alongside the Molong fluoridation project and focuses on meeting all regulatory and infrastructure requirements needed for Cumnock and Yeoval to be formally declared as having fully potable drinking water.
