A unique exhibition about the emotional relationship between humans and their pets is running at Bayside Gallery until 6 October. Pets are people too will showcase the relationship humans develop with their pets over years of cohabitating and mutual dependency.
Gallery Curator Joanna Bosse, developed the concept for the exhibition, which has been co-curated with Sim Luttin from Arts Project Australia.
"Bayside has one of the highest percentages of dog ownership in Australia," Joanna said.
"This led me to reflect on the enriching role pets play in our lives, and how they become family members complete with unique personalities and behaviours within the family dynamic."
The exhibition includes work from eight artists including Sydney-based Noel McKenna, who often reflects the experience of domesticated animals in his work. You'll also see drawings from dog lovers Bronwyn Hack and Anastasia Klose, and an embroidered fabric saddle by sculptor Kate James, commemorating her horse.
Sim said the exhibition has something for everyone and residents of all ages would find enjoyment including your beloved dog.
"From poignant and funny to moving moments, the show will reveal how 'human' our pets become through their association with us," she said.
During the exhibition, the Gallery is holding a Doggie Day Out on Saturday 31 August from 1-5pm, so yes, you can take your hairy hound to the exhibition too.
