Former Culburra Police Station building donated to local Aboriginal community centre - South Coast

A demountable building that formerly housed Culburra Police Station, has today (Monday 29 March 2021), been gifted by the NSW Police Force to Cullunghutti Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, based in Nowra.

The Cullunghutti Aboriginal Child and Family Centre is a not-for-profit organisation managed by the local Aboriginal community. The centre brings together a range of early childhood, health, and family support services to improve education, health, wellbeing, and quality of life for Aboriginal children and families.

The building will be relocated from its current position on Culburra Road, Culburra, to the centre's premises on Holloway Road, Nowra, where it will primarily be used for the provision of therapy services.

South Coast Police District Commander, Superintendent Greg Moore APM, said the donation has been welcomed by the local community.

"We are proud to be able to gift this building to a very worthwhile and much needed Aboriginal community centre," Supt Moore said.

"When we heard the centre needed additional building space to accommodate our local Aboriginal children, we jumped at the opportunity to help out where we could.

"The partnership between police and our local Aboriginal community is instrumental in building positive relationships and breaking down any barriers that may exist.

"We look forward to continuing our positive relationship with our local Aboriginal community."

The building will be removed from its original site this Wednesday 31 March 2021.
