Former police officer charged with domestic-related offences after being arrested at Zetland

A former NSW police officer will face court tomorrow charged following an investigation into a domestic-related incident at a Southern Highlands home late last year.

Following an alleged domestic-related assault at a home in Bowral on Tuesday 24 December 2019, officers from The Hume Police District, with the assistance of police in Sydney, have been conducting extensive inquiries to locate a 40-year-old man.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command were actively searching for the man yesterday (Friday 31 January 2020), after receiving information he may be in the Botany area.

Just before 5pm, two detectives approached a man on Joynton Avenue, Zetland, and attempted to arrest him.

The man failed to comply with police directions and an officer has attempted to restrain him; deploying OC spray.

After a struggle in traffic, the officer has fallen to the ground with the man landing on top of him. The man broke free and ran off, pursued by officers.

After catching up to the man a short distance away, OC spray was again deployed before a further struggle in traffic.

The man attempted to punch the officer before running off through a nearby park.

Further police attended to assist, and the man was located on Portman Street, Zetland, about 5.10pm

The man again failed to comply with police directions, and officers were required to physically restrain the man.

Following a further struggle, the man was wrestled to the ground and arrested. He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital under police guard for treatment and assessment.

He was later returned to custody at Mascot Police Station, where three outstanding arrest warrants were executed for the offences of armed with intent commit indictable offence, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), and two counts of common assault (domestic).

He was also charged with two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, assault officer in execution of duty, intimidate police officer in execution of duty, three counts of use carriage service to threaten to kill, and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Sunday 2 February 2020).
