Former teacher charged over historical indecent assaults in Lewisham

Police have charged a former teacher over the alleged historical indecent assault of students at a high school in Sydney’s inner west, NSW Police say.

Between 1971 and 1974, three male students were allegedly indecently assaulted by a teacher at the Lewisham school.

The boys were aged 12 and 13 at the time.

The incidents were reported to police and detectives from Marrickville Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 79-year-old man was arrested by detectives yesterday.

The man was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with four counts of indecent assault on a male and common assault.

The Chittaway Bay man was given bail to appear at Wyong Local Court on 3 August 2016.

Detectives are continuing their inquiries and urging anyone with information to come forward.
